ADSA27: Implementation and Deployment of Situational Awareness Strategies for Protecting Soft Targets

ADSA27 addressed the topic of “Implementation and Deployment of Situational Awareness Strategies for Protecting Soft Targets”.
Specific topics covered include:
- Requirements, concepts of operation, variations per venue and threat
- Stakeholders’ perspectives: law enforcement, first responders, case studies
- Sensors (physical and intelligence) for detecting people with malicious intent and their weapons
- Algorithms for processing sensor data
- Stakeholder communication, protocols and open-platform
- Deployment Installation Limitations, liability, financial, unintended consequences, civil liberties, privacy
- Layered security, displacement, deterrence
- Testing and evaluation
- Humans (inc. parents) in the loop – dealing with rare events and false alarms
- Architectural Design as a deterrent
- Inputs and outputs for a Decision Support System
The ADSA workshops are convened by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Excellence (COE) for Soft target Engineering to Neutralize the Threat Reality (SENTRY) at Northeastern University. SENTRY addresses protecting soft targets and crowded spaces. The ADSA workshops are also convened by the emeritus DHS COE for Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats (ALERT).

There will be a $100 registration fee to defray the costs of hosting the in-person event and supporting the virtual event. The registration fee only for those people in industry who are not members of Northeastern’s Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) and are not presenting.
