The NSF INCLUDES Engineering PLUS Alliance is a nationwide initiative designed to build U.S. leadership in STEM by increasing the participation of individuals from Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and women who have been historically underrepresented in STEM. Many of the STEM disciplines essential to the Homeland Security Enterprise face this same challenge. DHS is committed to the strategic goal of building “a workforce representative of America’s diversity”.
SENTRY, with funding from the DHS S&T Office of University Programs, is partnering with the NSF INCLUDES Engineering PLUS Alliance and its stEm PEER Academy to engage a cadre of 2024 DHS PEERs associated with the DHS Centers of Excellence and their affiliated partners.
The stEm (E emphasizes Engineering) PEER Academy is designed to empower, resource, and support a national network of PEERs who will implement high-impact evidence-based practices at their home institutions to increase the number and percentage of BIPOC and women students earning undergraduate and graduate engineering and by extension other STEM degrees. The DHS PEERs program focuses on increasing these populations in homeland security-relevant STEM disciplines.
Applications for the May 2024 stEm PEER Academy will open in December 2024 and additional information on the DHS PEERs program will be available in the fall. For further information contact Elizabeth Blume.
