As SENTRY continues to build relationships with organizations at the forefront of security innovation, we are pleased to highlight one of our newest Industry Advisory Board members, InControl.
InControl is a global software company that develops custom simulation and decision-support platforms designed to help organizations better understand, prepare for, and respond to complex operational challenges. Their expertise spans a variety of industries, with a particular strength in creating realistic, data-driven simulation environments that support planning, training, and operational decision-making.
The company’s capabilities align closely with many of the challenges facing those responsible for protecting soft targets and crowded places. From planning large-scale events to evaluating emergency response strategies and evacuation procedures, simulation technologies are becoming increasingly valuable tools for security practitioners seeking to understand potential risks before they occur.
InControl shared its expertise with the SENTRY community during our Strategic Initiatives Virtual Workshop in February 2026. Gary Gardner, Vice President of North American Operations, served as a featured speaker in the workshop’s crowd-evacuation session, discussing how advanced simulation platforms can help organizations visualize complex scenarios, test emergency response options, and improve emergency preparedness.
Gary Gardner, InControl’s Vice President & Safety & Security Applications Director, explains that the value of this partnership lies in the collaborative outcome. Gardner states, “The SENTRY program and InControl are highly complementary, as they address different—but interconnected—parts of the resilience and emergency management lifecycle. At a high level, SENTRY focuses on understanding threats, improving decision-making, and developing technologies for preparedness and resilience. InControl provides the digital twin and simulation environment to test, validate, optimize, and operationalize those concepts before they are implemented in the real world. Or as we like to say, you can experience the future – today.”
The company is also supporting research led by SENTRY’s Dr. Subhadeep Chakraborty, which focuses on crowd dynamics, evacuation planning, and decision-support systems. Through collaborations such as this, InControl is helping SENTRY bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and operational tools that can support real-world decision-makers.
Dr. Chakraborty described the specific value of this partnership, explaining, “InControl provides a unique data-validated tool for accurately simulating movement of large crowds through complex spaces. With InControl’s pedestrian dynamics and our optimized routing tool working seamlessly together, we are creating a mission-ready deployable decision-support tool for soft-target protection. Together, we can provide security officials, building planners, and administrators with an optimized resource allocation and dynamic evacuation guidance tool that can be used for advanced planning and training exercises and during emergencies for real-time risk management.”
As security challenges become increasingly complex, the ability to model environments, understand human behavior, and evaluate response options before an incident occurs is becoming essential. InControl’s work in simulation and decision support is an important contribution to this evolving landscape.
SENTRY values the expertise and perspective that our industry partners bring as we work together in our shared goal of protecting soft targets and crowded places. Learn more about our Industry Advisory Board here.
